Day 7 – Vast

On a clear December night, the sky stretches farther than my eyes can follow — an infinite sea of stars, galaxies, and mysteries I cannot measure.
In the midst of this immensity, I am reminded of my own smallness—a tiny presence, a micro speck upon dust within the vastness of the universe. And yet, the Maker of all this, the One who spoke light into existence, knows me intimately.
At Christmas we remember: The One who holds the galaxies is the One who holds us. He drew near— not because we are worthy, but because His love is.
Scripture pairing:
Psalm 8:3-4
New King James Version
3 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,
4 What is man that You are mindful of him,
And the son of man that You visit him?
Invitation to wonder:
This December, step outside. Look up. Let the stars remind you: You are seen. You are loved. The vastness of the universe is not beyond the reach of God’s love.
A song of reflection:
The First Noel
The first Noel the angel did say
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay;
In fields where they lay keeping their sheep,
On a cold winter’s night that was so deep.
Refrain:
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel.
They looked up and saw a star
Shining in the east, beyond them far;
And to the earth it gave great light,
And so it continued both day and night.
And by the light of that same star
Three Wise Men came from country far;
To seek for a King was their intent,
And to follow the star where’er it went.
This star drew nigh to the northwest,
Over Bethlehem it took its rest;
And there it did both stop and stay,
Right over the place where Jesus lay.
Then entered in those Wise Men three,
Full reverently upon the knee,
And offered there, in His presence,
Their gold and myrrh and frankincense.
Then let us all with one accord
Sing praises to our heav’nly Lord
That hath made heaven and earth of naught,
And with His blood mankind hath bought.
Refrain:
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel.
