Getting that perfect family photo can be a challenge, but it definitely is a wonderful way to capture time and memories.

On that First Christmas, they had no way of doing that. However, artists were able to help us envision what it was like through the written word. The birth of Christ is recorded in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke, specifically in Matthew 1–2 and Luke 1–2 and from there we have beautiful paintings.

Many talented artists have created beautiful nativity scenes throughout the years. The way most artist try to do it, is to start with an outline, much like a coloring page. Here is an example that Valeria Leonova sent me of a little girl making a Christmas card. (That First Christmas Day - illustration sample - 2024)

Just as families treasure photos today, the Nativity has been lovingly preserved through Scripture and art. It reminds us that the wonder of Christ’s birth is timeless and always worth remembering. This season, enjoy special displays—or create one of your own—as a beautiful way to capture and share the true meaning of Christmas.
