Day 11 - Wonder
In our Twelve Days of Wonder, we have looked at topics such as our vast universe (Day 7) and quest for a desired outcome (Day 10), However, one very important question that needs to be answered is - what do you wonder about?
Maybe this year, your wondering feels heavier. Maybe it sounds like:
Is God still in control?
Does He see what’s happening in the world? In my life?
It’s okay to ask. In fact, the song I’m sharing today begins with a question too:
“I wonder as I wander, out under the sky,
How Jesus the Savior did come for to die,
For poor ordinary people like you and like I;
I wonder as I wander, out under the sky.”
This Appalachian carol doesn’t offer easy answers. It simply wonders. Perhaps the composer, walking beneath the stars, simply wondered at the power of Jesus.
The song goes onto say…
“If Jesus had wanted for any wee thing,
A star in the sky, or a bird on the wing,
Or all of God’s angels in heaven for to sing,
He surely could have it, ’cause he was the King.”
“If Jesus had wanted any wee thing—a star in the sky or a bird on the wing” —He could have had it. But He chose us. He chose the path of love, even when it led to the cross.
So yes, God is in control. But not in the way we often imagine. His power is not about force—it’s about faithfulness. His plan began in a manger, not a palace. It unfolded through poverty, not privilege. And it continues today, even in uncertain times.
This Christmas may your wondering not end in answers, but in awe.
May it lead you to the manger, where God’s faithfulness whispers:
I see you. I love you. I chose you. I am with you.
